It apparently wasn't enough for Madison Bumgarner to dominate on the mound as the ace of the San Francisco Giants rotation. Now he's punishing opponents on days he's not pitching – as a hitter. With the Giants leading the Cardinals 1-0 with two outs in the seventh inning Tuesday, Bruce Bochy tabbed Bumgarner to pinch-hit for starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong even though he had three position players to choose from on the bench. Bumgarner stepped to the plate to face St. Louis starter Lance Lynn and after working the count to 3-1, laced a fastball to left field for a base hit and would later come around to score as the Giants won 2-0. Bochy considered replacing Bumgarner with a pinch-runner, but thought better of it because y'know, Mad Bum is mad competitive: Bochy thought about pinch-running Heston for Bumgarner.
