The scoreboard showed a 3-2 count after Chase Anderson's sixth pitch to San Francisco's Joe Panik. Plate umpire Angel Hernandez called a ball on the next pitch and Anderson was about to throw another one to Panik when Giants manager Bruce Bochy yelled from the dugout that it should have been ball four. Hernandez gathered the rest of the umpires for a meeting, then went to the video review.
