History was made Friday night when Dominican born Ramon De Jesus Ferrer took the field at Comerica Park for the series opener between the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers. De Jesus wasn't donning the uniform of the Indians or Tigers upon his debut either. Instead, he was representing the third team on the field, the umpires, which made him the first umpire from the Dominican Republic to work a Major League Baseball game. De Jesus is working second base during Friday's game, which based on the typical rotation means he'll handle first base on Saturday and then home plate on Sunday, which will no doubt be a memorable assignment as well.
