Right-hander Erick Fedde combined with three relievers on a seven-hit shutout and Matt Adams cracked a run-scoring double Monday night, giving the Washington Nationals a 4-0 victory over the host San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game series. Adam Eaton singled, walked and scored twice, helping the Nationals beat the Giants for the third time in four meetings this season. Fedde (2-2), who had been winless since May 26, allowed just one runner past first base in six innings.
