SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants lost the left side of their infield a few minutes into Tuesday night’s game. Even that couldn’t slow their surprising late-season charge. Willy Adames and Matt Chapman got ejected after the benches cleared in the first, but the infield still played a clean defensive game and Logan Webb was backed with four homers. The 7-4 win was the ninth in 10 games and allowed the Giants to keep pace with the New York Mets, who maintained their five-game lead in the wild-card race. Both veterans were ejected shortly after Rafael Devers got the Giants on the board with a two-run blast in the first inning. Rockies lefty Kyle Freeland took exception to how long Devers watched the ball fly, and the two started jawing. Benches cleared and Freeland, Chapman and Adames all were sent back to the clubhouses.
