SCOTTSDALE — The MLB offseason starts right after the World Series, and while there’s occasionally a superstar who waits until March to sign, the heavy lifting generally is done in December and early January. For the Giants, however, the biggest move came last June.Buster Posey stunned the baseball world by jumping the line and acquiring Rafael Devers, and it’s no coincidence that months later, as they met with reporters and hopped on Zoom calls to discuss a much quieter offseason, team officials constantly threw Devers into their answers. The $255 million the Giants took on in June ended up being more than any free agent got this offseason, coming in just ahead of Kyle Tucker’s four-year, $240 million deal with the Dodgers. The Giants front office can make a fair argument that over the past calendar year, they have been as aggressive as anyone.
