Isn't that 1 slugger and 4 slugs? Martinez is the only one who would even scratch the surface of our needs.

The rest are available at the end of every year. I'm only interested in players who have more HRs & Rbis than current Giants.

Scutaro and Johnson combined don't have those numbers.
ill take johnson or martinez
Interesting that three of those listed are first basemen

Ishikawa - 215 AB, 0.265 BA, 0.315 OBP, 7 HR, 30 RBI
Garko - 234 AB, 0.286 BA, 0.362 OBP, 11 HR, 39 RBI
Johnson - 338 AB, 0.302 BA, 0.412 OBP, 6 HR, 42 RBI
Scutaro - 388 AB, 0.289 BA, 0.385 OBP, 8 HR, 44 RBI

Garko seems pretty intriguing, but I'm not gonna lie, I haven't heard of him before this. Anyone know why he's being mentioned in trade rumors?

Thanks for posting the stats. It looks as if none of these guys are a significant upgade to trade anyone who may be key to our future.

Martinez, with his versatility catching, could help if Posey has a learning curve and is serviceable at first. The .300 power bat is the real intriguing thing.

Johnson and Garko are journeymen for various reason including Nick's nicked up a lot and has lack of true corner infield power as you can see. Garko is a platoon player who struggles agaiinst lefties and has never played with an NL team and would have to face all new pitchers. His numbers are great for the limited at bats and may be worth a flyer if he cheap and under contract which I doubt. Both he and Martinez are Indians. Garko had palyed in KC and for other teams as well.

The ex-A Scutaro (Bobby Valentine's Pet Project) has played everywhere at every level (even Japan) and is a great utility guy but not an everyday 1st baseman. Ishi has the same HR's and 1/2 the ab's. If we get Scutaro, I'll wager $20 he won't hit a single dinger at ATT.

Wow thanks for the insight.

I think Martinez would be helpful too, but it seems I've heard his name mentioned in a lot of rumors around the league. Seems like we'd need to give up too much to get him, or that another team in the hunt will give up more than we are willing.
werent the nats looking at our double A team?
whos even on our double A team they would want?

Tim Alderson
Madison Bumgarner
Henry Sosa
Brock Bond
Brandon Crawford

Here are some other pitchers who are having decent seasons with Connecticut who are 25 and younger
Ben Snyder
Joe Paterson
Dan Otero
Jesse English

Here is there roster

Lots of pitchers are having good years aged 25 or younger but postion players 25 are younger are far behind, similar to the San Francisco Giants.
martinez will be the only 1 i'll want. but he will cost too much

No offense but your talking out of your ass about Garko. He's far from a journeyman. He was drafted by Cleveland and only has played for Cleveland in his career. As far struggling against lefties, he's a career .317 hitter against them and owns a career 904 OPS compared to .770 against righties. As far as him being a platoon player, he's been an everyday 1B since 2007.

He would be the righthanded 1B we've been looking for.

Sorry,

I had a brainfart. I was thinking about Ross Gload.

Garko isn't a full timer with that many at bats though is he? Martinez plays first too, I think.

It's all good. I kinda figured you weren't talking about the same player but i wasn't sure. Garko has played some games out in the OF as well. The Indians have to give Shoppach some games at catcher so Martinez has played some 1B, thus putting Garko in the OF.

Garko hasn't seemed to get as many at-bats this year though as in years past. I don't know why but judging by numbers he hasn't seemed to regress at all. Last year he had 90 RBI's in just 141 games so he's a capable batter with runners in scoring position.

Also sorry if i came off as kind of an ass with my response. Didn't really mean to. Been drinking a bit tonight. Just angry with how the Giants have been playing since the break.
Garko wouldnt be a bad pickup to help this team againt LH pitching. Like all the players out there it just depends on how much you would have to give up. I would trade a 2nd tier prospect (Gillespie, Noonan) for him but thats about it.

I would just forget about guys like Sanchez, Nick Johnson, and other punch and judy hitters that wont really give the team any power in the middle of the order. They just are not going to make a difference. Aubrey Huff would be a decent pickup if he didnt cost much.

I seriously doubt the Giants would trade for Martinez. He would cost them Bumgarner or Posey and we know that isnt going to happen. I would trade Alderson and Villalona for him if he had 3 or more years left on his contract However, he has just 1 year left. SO.. I wouldnt think a trade for him is even possible.

No hard feelings. it's a form of dyslexia I got from a old girlfriend. She would incessently get names of people & places & things almost ... but not quite right, forcing me to correct her.

It was semi-intentional though I think. It didn't start fights but she made sure I was listening.

I'd be interested in Garko with those numbers expanded over a full season. I think Snow only drove in 100 once and no one in either corner since the new park. Wow, I can't belive I wrote that's but I think it's true.

I'm roadweary too. I just hope we get the Bucs. We got swept the last 2 times they came here and need to get all 3 with the Phiilies on the weekend.

Maybe we can fleece Garko and Martinez by Thursday, eh?
