Buster Olney reported the Red Sox have made inquireries to San Diego to see if they would trade Adrien Gonzalez.

They are in the midst of an ownership change and could try a full rebuild at the risk of their fan base like we chose not to. I'm not sure how they would react but maybe SDGiant could give some info if this is BS.

He's a guy that would be a great fit. A lefty who could splash some and reach left field too. His average is way down but he's trying to carry a whole team and probably swinging at anything close to the plate.

I thought his numbers were a mirage when he went from the Rangers to the Pads but his Hr totals went up at Petco.

He has hit well here, too. I'd hate to see the embarassingly rich Sox get him without a fight from us.

pads wont trade within division
Adrian Gonzalez would be everything we need. Unfortunately I don't see any way in hell the Pads give him to us, unless we're giving up damn near every top prospect we have.

Giants GM Brian Sabean has ruled out a possible trade for Roy Halladay.
The Giants covet their top prospects. "We don't want to deplete our assets when there's another route we need to go," Sabean said. "Simply put, (Jonathan) Sanchez and Sadowski have to step up. Each day Randy doesn't pick up a baseball, the longer it looks like he won't be back any time soon. We should have a lot more information on him in a couple of days." With each passing day, it feels more and more like Halladay will play out 2009 in Toronto. Source: San Jose Mercury News Jul. 27 - 8:51 am et

Seems like Sanchez is also staying put to "step up" and pitch more than 6 innings in a start other a than no hitter.

And Ugh! Sadowski remains in his "showcase" role? Friday against the Phillies? Can't somone else take a turn? Why not just start with Miller if he's gonna be in there in the third inning anyway?
I'd love to add Martinez, Huff, or Garko.

I think Martinez is out of our price range, but the other two might be affordable.

I'm not sure of the Indians plans -- Hafner at 1B? V-Mart? But Garko might be a relatively inexpensive bat. Can also play LF/RF. 21 HR in 2007. 90 RBI last season. 162 game career averages of 21 HR and 93 RBI.

Huff is cold right now, but I've said before he'd be a solid add.

Sure they would. The Padres know they arent close to winning a division for the next few years. If the Giants offered them a great deal they would go pull the trigger. This isn't like a Giants-Dodgers deal.
Trust me.. if the Giants offered them something like Alderson, Villalona,Neal, and another mid tier prospect the Padres would jump all over it. I think Gonzo is good but no where near that good. The Padres are certainly going to overvalue him and I seriously doubt he goes anywhere to tell you the truth.

I never thought there was a prayer that the Giants would trade for Doc. However, leaving Sadowski in the rotation at this point seems stupid to me. Bring up Pucetas who has much better stats than Sadowski had in AAA. WHy the hell not??????????

I would've NEVER guessed Sadowski would come up before Pucetas. But you're absolutely right. With how close we are in the WC, why not switch one of your weaker links in the rotation for someone who IMO is better.

i thought they said like conneticut is a bad place for pitchers so we have them skip it if they are really good
iunno where i heard it

The pacific AAA league favors hitters much more than it does pitchers. Both are still in AA, though both are pitching very well in AA.

The more I think about it, the more I would like to see us just bring up Guzman and make a play for Sanchez and see how we end up. Unless we make a play for a bat that we are going to have around for a long time i don't want to give up much from the minors.

Realistically, we need at least a couple bats and a pitcher to make a difference against some of the stronger teams in the NL.

Martinez will be costly. Garko is probably viewed as expendable although they would probably like to be rid of Hafner.

You or anybody doesn't want to watch Pronk play 1st. Garko has the versatility and the added value to NL teams because he's an OK fielder.

The Tribe thinks Matt Laporta is ready for an audition in either left or at first so it's likely Martinez will be mostly a DH if they keep and extend him. Shoppach has regressed this year so keeping V.Mart as insurance backstop is also in the mix.

Garko can't play center so they are keeping Ben Francisco on the roster so Sizemore can DH through his injury. Francisco would be optioned or waived if La Porta came up and Size got healthy.

Garko is ready to be a fulltimer and he would get a boost in his numbers simply by moving to the heart of an order.

He's probably produced those numbers hittting 5-7 for the tribe whereas he would hit 5th or better here.

I like Huff other than he's one of the streakiest player in my recent memory. Capable of carrying a team or disappearing a month at a time. His numbers are inflated by his surrounding lineup too.

Ishikawa - 215 AB, 0.265 BA, 0.315 OBP, 7 HR, 30 RBI
Garko - 234 AB, 0.286 BA, 0.362 OBP, 11 HR, 39 RBI
Johnson - 338 AB, 0.302 BA, 0.412 OBP, 6 HR, 42 RBI
Scutaro - 388 AB, 0.289 BA, 0.385 OBP, 8 HR, 44 RBI

Garko seems pretty intriguing, but I'm not gonna lie, I haven't heard of him before this. Anyone know why he's being mentioned in trade rumors?

youve never heard of Ryan Garko before now??

Nope. I don't really know much about the AL I guess. I don't play fantasy baseball, and I rarely have the time to sit down and watch SportsCenter or Baseball Tonight all the way through.
I never heard of Garko either. From the 4 guys listed above it doesn't seem that any of them are an improvement over what we have at 1st and especially if you take the glove into account.

I have noticed a lot of Giants fans are kind of myopic about the way they follow baseball.

Most are very aware of the Dodgers and wanting to be better than, or beat them head to head... and some follow just the division, others just the NL.

Very few even consider the AL the same game and they are very anti- DH. Other than the A's the typical Giants fan doesn't have an AL rival unless the LAA world series sticks in their craw.

They catch up with the AL once the playoffs start and they don't have to look around to find the games.

For those of you from out of town it's F'in impossible to find anyone working in a sports bar who knows how to work the tv's.
